Artist's Commentary

If you're just joining the story, you can read it from the beginning, by clicking HERE for episode #4.

This comic represents the longest "Hiatus" I've ever had to take on Newt and John... and with that, my apologies to you the readers. Not only did I start a new full time job during this making of this episode, but I also took on a 2nd freelance job at the same time!.. Needless to say, I didn't have much time for anything else.

I originally posted this episode's first part, thinking I'd have enough time to finish the rest by the end of that week.... that was several months ago! I hang my head in shame...

...but the important thing is, I didn't give up on Newt and John, and I hope you haven't too! They must get back home from this adventure, and they will do just that... in the next, and last episode in this on-going story!

I had never really planned on writing this episode... after spending so much time on the 'first' deserted island, I didn't want to keep the audience here too long. But the setup I created in episode 17 was just begging for a 'trial and error' episode in the spirit of the classic "Wile E. Coyote" Looney Tunes cartoons!

What this meant though, was trying to squeeze a lot into a full-page layout. Originally I had more than the 14 panels you see here. Every single panel has some new custom art, character or effects. It took so much time to make each image... when I could get time to work on it.

It was also necessary to keep continuity of Newt's "Gilligan Shirt" during all the 'attempts' off the island. John, if you notice he also had the palm-leaf bows on his antennae singed during the magnifying-glass boat inferno.... so I had to go back and fix the continuity of that in a couple of later panels.

I'm happy with how this episode turned out. Even happier that it's finally finished. Now, I have only one episode left in this story. I have found more time to get these comics done, so I hope you'll come back soon and see how the story ends!

Thanks for reading!
